making a new template by extending an existing one

Sometimes I want to extend an existing (subjcect) template only with a few field. At the moment I cannot do that because that template often is in use. But I also don't want to extend that template because then in all cases people use this standard template they have lots of columns to fill in. They can of course keep empty the extra columns I want to add, but a huge number of columns does not work nicely, you have to slide all the way left and right and so on.
So if I now want to have a template just like another but with something extra (and often also something less) I need to make a total new template. It would be nice if you could also choose an existing template as a basis for the new template you want to make: you only add and remove some fields and then i's ready.

I've added a clone template feature yesterday, and that will do the trick, I think.
